Using maps offline
Ok, so i need some help because im not the most tech saavy person.
I found this nifty how-to on offline maps: Save google maps with Maps Offline for later viewing - iPhone Apps, iPhone Productivity Tools - iPhoneFreakz
The problem is jiggy is not in cydia any more and was wondering if there was another type of java program to use offline maps with?
Im traveling to europe in the summer and want to have a map with points of interest on it for amsterdam and some other cities so do i have any other options as well? Again, im not the most tech saavy person when it comes do doing some things with the iphone.
EDIT: Also found this:http://www.metacafe.com/watch/107391...ve_large_maps/ so how would i get that map file to the iphone.
Also is it true that yellowsnow 0.9.8 unlocks 2.2.1 with BB 02.30.03???
Thanks

NO, it does not. Yellowsn0w unlocks baseband 02.28.00 only. The baseband is the one that comes with firmware 2.2. So if you installed 2.2 you can use Yellowsn0w.
An option ist to use a custom firmware 2.2.1 built by a tool called PawnageTool 2.2.5 (Mac only). This special custom firmware does only update the firmware, not the baseband. If you happen to have the custom firmware you can apply it on Windows or mac.
The best solution for offline maps is xGPS. You can find the (free) product on Cydia and install it on your iPhone. It is a map and navigation solution. Read more at xGPS - GPS for iPhone / iPod touch.
There is a free desktop version called xGPS manager (Mac, Win, Linux GTK) that allows to load the maps you need on your PC and then transfer it to your iPhone. What i did recently while in Rome and Athens I downloaded maps of the two big cities and at home entered POIs on the iPhone.
Using GPS while on the road does not use data traffic (=roaming costs) only downloading the maps with Apples solution.
xGPS does support online and offline mode, so you're set with the solution.
hope this helps,
v.
