Hi
I wouldn't worry 2 much I think XianLi (Bender) was just saying that if you don't have the correct 0755 permissions the file will not work correct when you move it back to the phone.
Just move the file back using SSH and you should be fine

I tried that, and my phone got stuck at the startup logo... so I had to restore it, and jailbreak it again... I went through this like 5 times last night hehe, killed like 5 hours of time tryin to get it done.

I get exactly the same thing happening on 2.1 firmware and when I SSH the backup again the phone boots correctly.

what do you mean by the backup? The original springboard on the iphone?
Bender says to change the original to springboard.bak on the iphone, and than put the modified springboard on the iphone as well. So do you leave both of the files on the iphone, or do you delete the backup? Sorry I am a little confused
ssh is sending files from your computer to the iphone wirelessly using a program like winscp right?

What your doing is correct..
I mean when I rename the springboard.bak to springboard again and delete the modified version the phone gets past the boot logo on start up.

So there's no way to disable the volume buttons?
-
That means you need to make sure the modified version of SpringBoard still has file permission of 755.
You can do that from WinSCP. Select the file (on iPhone) SpringBoard, right click and select properties, put 755 there like this:

Bender said it is for 1.1.3/1.1.4 only because starting from 2.0 the binary won't load if the signature is incorrect, which is the side effect of modifying the binary.
