Default US iPhone with German T-mobile sim. Why does'nt it work?

    Hy Guys!

Question: Why can't I use an US-iPhone (upgraded to 1.1.2 und jailbreaked) with an german t-mobile sim-card witch originally is the one from my official iPhone with t-mobile service plan?

The phone tell me "... must be used with an approved sim..." all the time.

    I don't get it.
I mean: the 1.1.2 firmware from apple should have all the settings for the german t-mobile network in it, should'nt it?
And the german iPhone did not come with the sim installed already like the US Phones do. You just get one from the staff at the "T-Punkt". So there can't be any lock like "one phone, one sim".

In my mind it should be possible to use an US-Phone with that originaly t-mobile iPhone sim, that works in the german iPhone.

    Where is my fault?

    Thanks for your thoughts and

    Greets from Munic,

I'd guess some sort of misunderstanding here: A US-iPhone is simlocked to the
AT&T card which was originally located in the tray. That means jailbreaking
alone won't allow you to use the german t-mobile iPhone simcard, the simlock
has to be removed as well !

O.K., Sounds logical to me, but: Isn't it the same Firmware in the US and the German Phone? Or: where is the lock stored in? If I reflash the firmware there is no difference between the two phones anymore, is it?

That is beyond my knowledge. I doubt that reflashing the phone does reprogram
everything though. Maybe looking at anysim will give some clues about where
    the simlock is located.

it's a bit like the new unlocked French iphones.
although they are sold unlocked it is impossible to use them with sim cards that are not French!!!

damn apple they think of it all...
anyway i think that the situation here is very similar
try to unlocking the phone with anysim it should allow you to use any sim card you insert , just don't forget to install IWORLD.
