A friend is buying a US model Iphone so that i can run the Dev software and unlock it here on the O2 network.

Uncle Steve announced today that the phone ships in the UK in November but i just don't want to wait that long.

So heres the question.Should i leave the phone boxed up until o2 have all of the support options etc in November,or use the unlock software asap to get it up and running?

The phone specs apparently are the same, and no major differences when the o2 network starts using the phone in November,so should i be ok to unlock and get it on???

I know that Jobs said in London that Apple are playing "cat and mouse" with the unlocking situation and may update the firmware to render the unlock useless.Im not a techy guy,i just want the phone asap, working and i'll be happy.

    Any help greatfully needed...

weeel, my take on this would be that the uk version will go along the same lines that the US version did.

However the UK version will be locked t the O2 network by default, with everything working the way jeebus (apple) and 02 intended.

As such if you feel you can wait, I should.

Having said that, 02 are releasing a globally available unlimited dataplan next month which will be identical to their "iphone" plan...

In other words if you are impatient go for it, however if you intend on using 02, in the uk with one of their UK plans, you will not have yo worry about your data plan or the phone being relocked.... I would wait.

Not sure where you get the figure of 13 for The Cloud as it 9.99 for multiple devices or 6.99 for a single - which is what O2 will give you.

Yes, the US iPhone will work fine on the O2 network, however, I am not sure about Visual Voicemail, as that may be enabled only on iPhone specific plans.

Apple has said that there will be a "cat and mouse" game with the unlockers, but I have a feeling they are only going to be half-hearted about it to not piss off the "exclusive" carriers. In other words, if you buy it now, you should be fine, just don't upgrade to the new firmware until the community has either confirmed that it doesn't modify the baseband or develop a new unlock.

i believe i read somewhere on a tech blog that o2 has the visual vmail working right now and current iphone user using unlocked have it working..... you might want to double double check that.

if you can't wait i would pull the trigger, i love my phone. and then just upgrade FW when the uk phones are released.

lol, now i need to find some sucker i can off load my ipod vid i used once. i love the all in one thing.
