Hi everyone,
i am quite new to iphone (although ive owned the original 2g iphone for a while now)

i am from the UK and bought the phone from ebay already unlocked.
Therefore i do not know what method was used to unlock the phone (is there a way i can tell??)

however i am currently running v 1.1.1 and i want to upgrade it to the laest version is this 2.1.0 ??

I remember reading if i let itunes upgrade then the phone will relock again..

if so what do i need to download to unlock the phone again
(also when the phone is locked other than the sim not working i read about youtube etc. needing unlocked - what exactly does get locked out??)

I would also like to install swirlymms so i can send and receive MMS messages.

If its any help i have a programme called winSCP on my laptop ( i used it a long time ago to put NES games on the iphone)

please could someone give me some help + guidence..

p.s is there much difference between 1.1.1 and the latest version ifso what are they?

You just update to 2.1fw and then use Quickpwn

SwirlyMMS is installed from the Cydia installer and all you need to do it configure the settings for your network.

this vrsion of quickpwn can only jailbreak devices with >=2.0

what does this mean?

as i did use itunes to upgrade the firmware 1st although i have had to do a restore since but using itunes to restore i selected the - 2.1.0 (2G): iPhone1,1_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw file

what shall i do now?

I got this error before just DFU restore to 2.1 and it should work

If it did not work try restarting both the iphone and pc

Has anyone at all configured swirlymms to work with 2.1.x on a 2g iphone through t-mobile?

I paid for the full license back when I had 1.1.4 and read that it was still possible to use when you upgrade to 2.x.x so I went with quickpwn and successfully jailbroke/unlocked it just fine, but I can't seem to configre swirly to download any mms msgs. It shows up when I get an mms msg, but I'm having no luck being able to connect. :/ It's really making me upset with having chosen to upgrade, when in fact I had chosen not to for quite sometime.

On another note, customize?? Anyone having problems with that not crashing right after executing? Pretty laaaaame I say.

Try this, it's the only one that got my mms working, don't forget to select a phone type that your carrier supports in the SwirlyMMS settings. Sorry I forgot to mention that I use t-Mobile in the UK. Hopefully this might help.
