Upgrading my Iphone firmware
I haven't upgraded the firmware on my iphone since I bought it back in August of 2007.
The current firmware on my iphone is 1.0.2. More specifically when I go to Settings>General>About>Version, it shows this: Version 1.0.2 (1C28)
I would like to upgrade the firmware, so, is this possible? Does anyone know what the best method to do this is? I've read about ZiPhone... is this the way to go?
Thanks!

yes you can upgrade via iTunes as far as ziphone you can use either ziphone or iplus to jailbreak, just read the stickies about each before you choose one as the choice is yours

Great! Now my question is, if I do upgrade my firmware via iTunes, will I lose the current data on my phone, i.e. phone numbers, text messages, bookmarks, music, third party software, etc?

No all your info is automatically backed up.
Counting down for iPhone 2012 =)

You will lose all 3-rd party software and you will have to reinstall it. Also, you might run into trouble if you decide to update your firmware without restoring first. If you restore, you will lose everything but if it's synced to itunes it should be easy to sync them back.

Seriously people, haven't we understood that you should read and search before posting new threads?
If you have used the search option then you would have found answers to questions you have not even though of.
Please stop spamming and search + read.
well taking the time to post this, i might as well help.
Back-up your phone
Update your phone through itunes normally,
Close itunes + (in Task Manager, close itunes help) and if you are using mac, in activity monitor, also close itunes help
Download Ziphone,
Press the do it all button and you are set to go.
Hope it helped.
As for your sms, i am not sure if they are backed up, read the iphone online support and you should have your answer.
Regards,

I wouldn't do it all with ziphone
I updated from 1.0.2 to 1.13 used ziphone to jailbreak and activate then used anysim1.3
to unlock.
There are lots of options, Ive heard a few people have had problems with the new versions of ziphone.
I used an old command line version.
There are lots of options I suggest you use the search and do some research.
It might save you from a phone with no service, or no wifi
Good Luck
