Guy's I've been watching youtube videos and im planning to upgrade my iphone, but before i do i want to have copies of my sms's and then when the phone is on the new firmware i would like the sms placed back on the phone..

is this possible?

if you upgrade and not restore to 1.1.4, your SMS and mail and all those things like contacts etc... all your customisations will stay. this is because an upgrade doesnt touch /var/mobile/Media

from the youtube videos, im looking to click restore and then back up and then restore and upgrade...

so would the upgrade mean once the restore is done then the upgrade my sms's etc will still be there?

yeah, a restore wipes everything. download iPhone PC Suite and then backup your stuff. Restore to 1.1.4, jailbreak, activate, unlock etc and then use iPhone PC Suite to sync the backups across again

sorted will download now, but currently im using a jailbroken and unlocked iphone, if i click restore it wont brick the phone will it?

he could try to get technical and take the sms file out then put it back in later

i know how to use ssh etc but if i copy n paste back would the sms inbox limit be set once again

alsow here exactly are the sms kept, ill try to ssh it and copy n paste back after restore...

when i click restore my iphone doesnt brick up rite? as its currenly unlocked and jailbroken...?

jailbreaking and activating wont cause a brick but the unlock might only if you are upgrading from 1.0.2 or below. If so, add source "i.unlock.no" and install "The Virginizor" and then upgrade & unlock with iLiberty. restoring will relock it and unjailbreak it so you have to start from scratch on that end
