Upgrading an activated iPhone
I just received my iPhone today which I purchased from ebay. Its previous owner has activated it somehow so that it functions as an iPod/Wifi etc with the AT&T simcard inserted, but it's not working for any phone functions of course. The software version is still 1.00. I'm not sure if it's still jailbroken or whether it was returned to jail.
My question is, if I want to upgrade the software then is there anything I need to look out for? Do I need to do some sort of checks to make sure that it isn't still "jailbroken" before applying an update from itunes? I don't mind having to activate it again afterwards (it doesn't really have any personal stuff in it yet so I don't even care if it loses all my data).
Any advice on how to proceed from people with more experience?
Cheers

I think you can just go ahead and update. Whether the iPhone is jailbroken or not should not matter, it should work fine anyway. And I don't think you'll lose any data.

So after upgrading the software, is it likely i'd have to reactivate? does iActivator work with the 1.02 software (or iFuntastic or something for intel mac which is what i use?)

Everything will work fine. You won't need to reactivate it provided you leave the AT&T sim card in there.
If you did have to reactivate it, check the tools section on this web site on how to activate it.
For mac, the best tool is iNdependence

Much appreciated, thanks
EDIT: just performed the update and, as advised, there were no issues whatsoever. It happily updated to 1.02 with the AT&T sim installed, rebooted and hasn't asked for reactivation or lost any data

His phone has already been activated Bro.The update process doesn't ask him to reactivate the Phone no more.(according to his post though).
