Default Unlocked iPhone- can you reset phone to factory settings for Apple Repair?

    Hi

I've been reading the (loads) for really useful information on this board!
I've gotton an iPhone and a Protection Plan also
    BUT
I've decided to unlock the iphone now SO if I go ahead and unlock it (SW unlock)- is there anyway to reset it back to factory default settings so I could use my protection plan should I need to repair the iPhone?

I'm guessing the answer is most likely no but there are a lota really intelligent developers here who maybe have a way?!

Thanks in advance for the advice!! :

yes there is. it would involve manually flashing the original firmware to the baseband using bbupdater

    good news!

excuse my ignorance but I'm not that great a technical person!!

In short- is this process 'doable' easily for someone with a little bit of technical knowledge or do I not want to attempt this?

Will Apple know that I have unlocked the phone and reset it?

I really appreciate ANY information on this so thanks in advance

On the other hand, is there any reason to believe that it matters? They are likely to refresh all firmware in the process of what they do, and it would surprise me if they do a detailed inspection of the contents.

I once had them repair a laptop on which I had installed a new larger hard disk. They not only did the repair I asked for, but they replaced that larger drive with one of the same capacity that met their specs.

Furthermore, what are the chances that you'll have access to the iPhone to run bbupdater if you have a problem? If it just dies, or Wi-Fi breaks, or a number of other things, you'll probably end up sending it in as-is anyway.
