i always get "unable to join network" notification on wifi setting when trying to connect to available access point, my iphone was OTB virgin 1.1.1, so without WiFi can not jailbreak and activate.... sadly i had to downgrade then use USB cable instead for jailbreak, activate, then unlock.

i downgrade the firmware and modem version to 1.02, with virginizing procedure....afterwards jailbreak, activate, unlock with AnySim 1.1p everything works fine...

but still on WiFi setting always "unable to join network"

already try to do full reset setting, reset network setting on iphone's menu, but still can't use WiFi to join network

is there any method on forcing it to join network or using manual setting?

i used my laptop as an access point (adhoc connection) not using any WiFi router, i tested the connection on my friends iphone's, everything ok, can join network, can use safari to browse, but still have no luck on my own iphone

despreatly needed advice, maybe someone have encountered similar problem as i did?

Your iPhone probably could not get an IP address. Try setting the IP address manually.

yup the iphone does not pick up the router ip address

i was in the same boat as you, so heres what i did my router was a Netgear rangemax WPN824. i logged in to my router page and went to wireless settings and entered password and username usually set by the router itself. then changed the encryption to WPA, entered a passphrase and clicked generate Key 1. i then used the Key 1 code and entered it my iphone Wifi password tab and clicked join and hey presto evrything up and running.

Maybe u shud try the same and see what happens ?

i just make it to open connection without pass, the first time still says unable to join then i click join for the second time, voila it can join the adhoc wifi network

I held my iphone touching the antenna of WIFI router, it connected to the router. I was able to use the internet in this position only. Moving away from router's antenna, internet does not works. At leaset now I can do some very urgent works on iphone without GPRS connection.
I was not able to use my wifi for last six months. Done everything that was already discussed in all the forums.

Today I installed iOS 4.0 on iphone 3G. The wifi is only working the same way (By touching the antenna of my WIFI router). Atleast now I had guts to install new firmware and unlock the iphone through WIFI. In my case now, it's definately a hardware problem.
