Default Unable to downgrade from 1.1.1 -> 1.0.2

Really looking for some help here.

I've followed all of the proper restore/downgrade instructions, but I cannot get installer.app to complete the copy of the 1.0.2 files as it always hangs at the same point.

Just to confirm, these are the steps I've taken:

    1) Boot iphone in restore mode [DONE]
    2) In iTunes, browse for the restore file iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw [DONE]
    3) The phone will restore, but it will fail. [DONE - *but I get Error Msg Code (1)]
    4) Run Nullriver's AppTapp...it should fail, but this is ok. [HANGS - I must terminate the apptapp installer process]

Here is the point at which the apptapp installer.app hangs every time (i've copied the stdout of a terminal execution of the apptapp installer.app):

    ---------------
    * iPhoneComm v2.0

Using 009-7698-4.dmg as the Ramdisk Image.
Using kernelcache.release.s5l8900xrb as the Kernel Cache.
    Architecture: i386

    Stage 0: 0 Killing iTunes...
Stage 0: 1 Looking for iPhone...
    ConnectRecoveryCallback: Bad Stage: 0
    Stage 0: 2 Recovering...
Stage 0: 3 Attempting to boot iPhone in normal mode...
Stage 1: 4 Sending preliminary files...
Stage 1: 5 Entering recovery mode...
    Stage 1: 6 Killing iTunes...
    ------------------

iTunes is not running when it hangs on this Stage 1:6 command. I have tried a dozen different sequences to get past this command, but it never works. I cannot get the installer to copy the 1.0.2 files and fail like it's supposed to.

Has anyone else experienced this? What am I missing here? I do not have a SW unlocked iPhone. I simply had 3rd party apps on my legit AT&T 1.0.2 iPhone, which I upgraded to 1.1.1 (like an idiot).

I desperately want apps back, but I cant get this downgrade to work for the life of me!!!

Please, any help would be appreciated!

    Scott

This is the first time I've actually gotten a little further, but i still cant get it work:

Stage 1: 5 Entering recovery mode...
    Stage 1: 6 Killing iTunes...
Stage 2: 7 Sending boot files...
Stage 2: 8 Booting iPhone in recovery mode...

    ------

It's already in recovery mode at this point... no luck getting past this. Hangs as usual. I tied rebooting the phone manually, tried all sorts of things to get past this. I only got this far by doing weird sequences of opening itunes to allow the phone to get recognized at certain stages.

    sooooo close! please help!

You are not doing the correct thing.

U should hold power and home button for 10 seconds EXACTLY.
then continue holding home button until itunes says u are in restore mode
    and need to do it.
And there choose the restore file to restore
and get an erorr numero 1013 i think it is.

    then appinstaller twice.

    and go on.

try the new version of ibrickr, the .91

not only does it put it in dfu mode so you dont have to do the exactly 10 seconds thing, it will do what apptapp installer does without needing to run it.

    just google search for ibrickr
