Just spoke to O2 - all of the stores have plenty of stock so no need to panic !

You can ONLY purchase an iPhone with a debit or credit card AND a valid email address.

This forms the basis for the credit check, as I am informed by my local O2 store.

The rest is via iTunes etc once you get home.
