    Default Which UK carrier

For those in the UK, now that we have an unlocked iPhone the next issue is which carrier to go for particularly with respect to data. I am currently with Orange, but they have this farce of an "unlimited data" tariff for 8 per month but capped at 30MB. I also have a 3 contract - but they have this problem that if you connect a phone to their network which does not support 3G they get upset. Any wisdom on this one folks ?

T-Mobile Flext 20 (18 months) currently 15 a month + 7.50 for Web + Walk Unlimited (cap about 1gb I think), plus you get a free phone you can sell on eBay.

Given a clean sheet I guess I would go with T-Mobile. However, further to my OP there are also a couple of other issues to consider. One is that as I understand it Orange are the only provider of Edge. The other is that given O2 are getting the iPhone contract, they will probably optimise their network to support the iPhone - or perhaps given their (sort of) monopoly they will do precisely the opposite and make it expensive to use data.

I use o2 in the UK and I can confirm that Edge/iphone works no problem, I have been using it for three weeks now.

The deal I have is called Simplicity 25 sim only deal so for 25 a month http://shop.o2.co.uk/tariffs/simonly

I get 600 call minutes and 1000 texts and free calls on Saturday's, Sunday's and Monday's. You also only tied to a 30 day contract.

The only downside is you only get free 1mb free data and have to either buy bolt ons or pay as you go basis.

As I live in London this does not bother me as there are plenty of wi-fi points.

Anyone got EDGE/GPRS working on Vodafone in the UK? If so, what setting did you use?

GPRS works just fine on Vodafone UK.
    Use:

    APN: internet
    login: web
    Password: web

This is if you are on a contract. Not sure if this will work on PAYG.

    Those are the settings.
If you put these into your iphone internet will work. At least for me.
