Is there any way to type a ` on the iPhone?
In my workplace we have a wlan which contains that character and it's the only character of the (ridiculously long) password that i can't figure out how to type..

So, that's a ` not a ' or ´

Have you tried to Hold " ' " on iPhone keyboard? It is shown like "," but in upper position. After holding on it 2 seconds you will have choice for "` ' ´" keep holding your finger on symbol and just move left you will see "`" highlighted. Try it maybe it is what you want
