what's more is that i'm reading in other sites that older usb AV cables for ipod don't work on iphone or touch.
I bought the Component one (all they had in stock) for use in my car. I don't actually use the video at all, just the Left and Right audio and USB for charging. Works great.
Apple has placed a authentication chip inside the new leads, NONE of the old cables will work.
Also the dock that comes with my iPhone won't work because, yes wait for it, this also needs a chip so another £35/$50 for the new Universal Dock (haha, no of course the old one doesn't work)
Apple ARE the new Microsoft.
The other thing is why oh why isn't Album art / track name/ displayed via TV-Out??
You know why?? Because Apple want to sell you Apple TV or a Mac Mini instead.
Any developers know if it's possible to hack into the Video out to display track names?
(Despite all this the TV out quality is good, and you can flip between Widescreen/normal just like when you're watching a vid on the phone.)
Feck you apple, I'm off to buy a Zune!
I bought a MB128ZA/A APPLE COMPONENT AV CABLE-ITS thinking that it would be a neat way to play my iTunes movies, (seeing a I can't burn to DVD). As I am in the UK, my Sony widescreen TV is PAL, not NTSC, which is ok as the iPhone allows you to choose between the two.
BUT all the output is in Black and White. Anyone else come across this and have a clue as to what needs to be done to see colour?
1.0.0 > 1.0.1 >1.0.2 > 1.1.1 > 1.1.2 > 1.1.3 > 1.1.2 > 1.1.3

You need to make sure you set it to PAL in the settings. I had this 'issue' the other day when my toddler changed the video settings in my ipod.. in my case it was set to PAL, but the tv is NTSC.

I've also got the composite cable.
The video looks nice but i agree that not being able to see the album art or even the song title is frustrating.
So here you are in front of your big screen with your iphone connected to your home theater and after watching a video you decide to switch to music and then zilch, nada !!!... you do get the sound, but having a black screen with 'no signal' is such a bore !
The old ipods did better than that when using the rca video connector.
I'm pretty sure there's a way to activate the full video output on the iPhone...
Anyone wants to try ?
