Default Turning an iphone into an itouch (temporarily) - deep tech question...

ok... I hope this isn't as deep as it feels...

I've got a 1.1.2 OTB activated and jailbroken which I want to give to my wife tomorrow but I want to give it to her to use as an iTouch until I figure out what I want to do next...

So here's the deal - I can turn on airplane mode and then turn wifi back on through services.app or toggle.app or manually... This works great but has a side effect of saying:

"You must disable airplane mode to access data." every time I run something that needs network access. Hitting cancel gets past it without turning the cell stuff back and wifi kicks in and gets all the data it needs to... The only problem is that it's really annoying to have to hit cancel every time a data based app gets run.

Does anyone have a good enough understanding of the inner workings to figure out how to either make the requests to disable airplane mode go away OR just to enable airplane mode but disable all the cell related stuff? I know how to turn off edge but then it still keeps trying to seek for the cell for voice (which it can't do because it doesn't have a live sim in it.)

Did that question make any sense to anyone?

    Happy Holidays!

You can use another trick (this works on a 3.9 bootloader, probably also on the new bootloader):

Turn the PIN of your SIM on through settings->phone->SIM pin.

Then reboot your phone. You will get the SIM is locked message, but only when you try to access the phone or while restarting the phone. Just ignore it (leave it locked)

Wifi will work as usual and you can leave airplane mode untouched.

    Hope this helps, PmgR

Default :) - Problem more than solved... but I've got a new one for the future!

I was so annoyed at the solution not being something technically interesting (oh - locking the sim works as you said - thanks for that) that I had to make it even better!

So.... I burned through the PIN lock attempts and now the PIN is in a PUK lock! As it turns out on bootup I get a message to try the PUK unlock or to hit OK. Hit ok once and I'm good as gold with Wifi and no annoying messages.... If (not!) my wife ever decides to run on AT&T I'll either have to switch to one of the stack of AT&T sims I have from friends phones or just call AT&T I guess. Anyway - thanks for the reply... now I'll need to go break something more serious since that solution was far to easy... If it doesn't involve a hex editor it just feels like I'm trying challenging myself.

Although last night I did manage to get my phone (original 1.0.0 unlocked with wire and a magnifying glass!) updated to 1.1.2 (and still unlocked) but I had so completely run out of space on the / partition that I failed in the middle the process and had no BSD subsystem (therefore no ls or rm, etc) and no room to put anything there.... it was ugly.... but I eventually scraped my way though the iphucking thing... ok... more wine!

    Thanks again!

    Boing
