transfer mp3s to iphone w/out itunes...
I hate using itunes to transfer mp3s, HATE IT. Give me drag and drop disk mode any day. I have tested it and thus far I have found no reliable means to transfer mp3s to the phone. Of course, I can transfer using iphonebrowser and similar programs, but the iphone music player won't recognize them unless they are transfered via itunes.
Has any one had ANY success in transferring music to the iphone without itunes AND been able to play the mp3s after transfer? If so, how, exactly, if you would please?

Well the directory / music structure looks the same on iPhones...
The iTunes replacement would have to do it via SCP or SFTP, so only cracked iphones running SSH would work ( approx 95% of all existing iPhones that matter
).
But it would be cool to work via WLAN :-)
Of course the sam USB access mode that iBrick uses would also work, no need for SSH then but less cool...
Greetings,
Ender

I am able to upload mp3s to any of the various sub-folders within the /music directory. The problem is that the ipod app on the iphone won't recognize that the mp3 is there. Maybe I'm putting them in the wrong directory? I'm uploading to the same directory tree that itunes uploads: /var/root/Media/iTunes_Control/Music then into one of the F00-F12 folders.
Itunes modifies the mp3 for uploading by changing the name of it and I'm guessing attaching some sort of ID tag so the iphone's ipod player recognizes it.
I have a friend that tried it with winamp and media monkey, says it didn't work. Not sure exactly what went on though.
Haven't tried newest ibrickr yet. I don't think the issue is transference of the mp3s to the iphone, the issue is the fact the iphone won't recognize the mp3 unless it is upload with that goddamned itunes.

I've read that iTunes is the only way to do it. I don't think WinAmp will work.
I really hope someone figures out a way to do this...I really don't like iTunes.
