Question 'tool' hactivated iPhone - no music sync?

Just received an iPhone in the UK - used the 'tool' code on my Quad G5 to 'hactivate' it - opened iTunes and hit 'cancel' on the AT&T page.

No probs - connected to my WPA2 wifi, set up SSL IMAP mail, works a treat.

However, even though iTunes auto-syncs the selected photos, contacts, etc. onto the phone, I can't drag and drop music onto the 'Music' list of the iPhone. What's this all about? Does the iPhone only support automatic syncing?

There's no 'manually manage music' like I have used with ALL my iPods since the first 1G iPod I had, but I assumed I could just drag over the necessary albums. This is all owned content i.e. ripped from CDs I've bought, at Lossless or high rate AAC, not bought from the iTunes Store (I don't have an account there, don't use it, prefer to buy CDs)

Is this the problem? I don't see why I shouldn't be able to put music on the iPhone - it seems to transfer the photos OK.

Updated - appears only to work with auto-sync i.e. need to generate a playlist on your normal library and sync that automatically.

There is no 'manage music manually' function on the iPhone by the looks of things - I'm getting all my tunes over using an 'iPhone' playlist with 7 GB of music and that appears to work perfectly.

Not sure how some of the reports here and on the blogs have got people dragging and dropping - do you have to uncheck 'sync automatically when connected' to achieve this? If so, then presumably this prevents auto-sync of contacts, calendars etc. which would defeat the purpose of the thing for me.
