Um no, the purpose of jailbreaking is to put Installer in there. Other than that there is no reason to. Even unlocking needs Installer [to put there AppSupport Patch in unsupported countries].

I would have to disagree...jailbreaking is making the file system available. Recently all the apps that do so have added Installer, to make it easy for the masses (noobs).
If you want to manage your device manually, install apps, change icons, etc it can be done without Installer....like we had to do in the very beginning.
This is what I want to do...

Just jailbreak, it will install Installer, just add OpenSSH and BSD Subsystem and then use WinSCP or a mac program to delete Installer...
