Question [AT&T] Using it without extending contract 2 years..can it be done?

Is it possible to unlock the iphone, use it on the AT&T network, and still use the EDGE network without getting pwnd by data access rates? (i.e. Sign up for AT&T's unlimited data plan for $29.99/mo ..which i think is for other cellphones that can go online.. and use it for the iphone?).

The reason im asking is because im on a family plan, and all the phone lines have recently had the phones upgraded and are not eligible for an iphone addition.

    Thanks!

yes you can. You can use most existing ATT sim cards. you do not even need to unlock the phone, merely bypass the activation.

I think im using the 20 dollar a month media max package. You can add it to your plan right on the website and then just swap sims, using one of the many programs out there to jailbreak and activate your phone, and your set.

Awsome, thanks for the help! So I bypass activation (with the simcard thats in there from apple) then add the media max package, and swap my existing (old) sim card to the iphone?

After I bypass the activation, do I need to jailbreak it as well? (since im already an AT&T subscriber)

I'm afraid is 999 SS trick doesn't work anymore. Anybody can confirm?

I am in a similar situation; I was thinking about adding a line on a family plan for me to use ($10) and then add the media net for data. I would still get a 2 yr contract, but I would be able to share minutes and it would be cheaper.

Question though, I see a $15 media net and a $30 media max and a $30 plan for pda's; to make things more confusing the iphone website says there is a $20 plan. Can anyone confirm which one works? (and which I can get on a cheap phone?) Also, any reccs on cheap phones that have internet and are eligible for data plans on ATT?
