T-mobileWeb at 5 SECOND Latency
I'm getting between 80kpbs and 100kps BUT with 5 SECONDS latency.. Yes. 5 SECONDS (or 5000ms if you wish) according to DSLReports.com/mspeed
This is ONLY on my iphone with T-mobileWeb. I pull the SIM chip and put it on my old T-mobile Dash and I get Sub second latency.
I tried moving the the "t-mobile full internet for $19.99" and I get subsecond latency on my iphone.
So no proxy, no latency on the iphone.
What could be the problem?
NOTE: I've noticed that even though I'm using the SIMPLEST of proxy.pac files (with no intelligence for which are the imap servers) but I AM able to access my IMAP services which I shouldn't be able to WITH the proxy.
Could this be an issue of the system trying first WITHOUT the proxy, and then timing out (after about 4 seconds) and then trying WITH the proxy (and succeeding?
Thanks for your help guys

*BUMP*
NO-ONE is having latency problems? Or does anyone know what latency is?

Dear thedamian,
Hi. I have a 1.1.2 ootb previously jailbroken and working on T-Mobile with an Ultra sim (anyone want one cheap? :-) ) and now truly unlocked with Zibri's method.
Using the T-mobile web 5.99 service, I have always experienced latency and there are many posts here and on modmyifine.com attesting to many others experiencing the identical issue.
You may have clued in on something but we really need an insider at T-Mobile to tell us how the iphone is authenticating to wap.voicestream.com.
I have the T-Mobile proxy installed and can run my gmail, safari, adn basically everything except YouTube fine, albeit very slowly at times. Also, on weekends, when I am in downtown Tampa working, my speed is astonishing compared to the rest of the week. Less users of blackberrys I guess.
I would be interested in knowing the actual handshake process also and figure out how to gain a couple of those seconds back.
Here is the perfect example demonstrating and confirming what you state.
When I run Locate Me via edge, the towers are located fine but every database check fails because there is not enough time to allow the info to be transmitted/received via t-mobile edge. I also notice when sending an email via Gmail it does seem to take forever when on edge.
I hope you success if you can deduce the culprit and overcome it. Many will be happy to donate to you!!!
Michael
