    Default T-Mobile vs. AT&T

    Just wanted to share my experience about the service and sound quality using these two providers.

    I bought my phone few weeks after teh release and activated it the legal way using iTunes. "Luckily" my credit is fairly bad so i got the pre-paid AT&T sevice. Have been using it for almost 2 months now, and, coming from US T-Mobile service, I noticed right away that sound quality on my iPhone (using pre-paid ATT card) was really bad the say the least... The sound was robot-like and really hard to hear. People been telling me that i sounded awefull as well... I almost thought that the iPhone was poorly engineered, but just didnt wanna talk about cause it was hard for me admit it after spending $600...

    Well, after i unlocked my phone 3 days ago and got it running on T-Mobile network, I have to say the ATT Service SUCKS, and I feel very bad about their customers, cause most of them never got a chance to compare these two services.

    Now I am not sure if the Pre-Paid ATT service is running on the more preserved and compressed net, but I CAN NOT imagine myself staying for 2 years with that kind of service. Using T-Mobile US, the sound quality is on par with my Nokia N80, if not better! What a relief...

    I switched from T-mo to ATT and I get "No Service" much more often with ATT. However, when I do have a signal, it's quite good, and fewer dropped calls. Sound quality is fine, except for static from the BT headset.

    Ok one more guy from another cell phone forum said "it's because at&t uses AMR-HR, while T-Mobile uses AMR-FS (full scaling)".

    Apparently it's a known issue...

    Aside from service between T-Mobile and ATT, T-Mobile has the best customer service. ATT customer service are stupid. I once asked for the GPRS network settings to be able to use the web on my Sony Ericsson K750i. ATT said that we cant give you that information because this phone is not supported by us!!! it took me about an hour to try and get the settings. In the end, i cancelled my contract and got a contract with T-Mobile. The moment i called for the settings, they gave it to me no questions asked.

    Also, if you were having problems, they wont leave you stuck like ATT, they help you in anyway they can. Even though T-Mobile is working on their coverage area, I see that they are better than ATT.

    I got my iphone's 4GB and 8GB unlocked and everything works fine and got the EDGE settings to work too. And I should say, its very very goood.

    I'm extremely satisfied after a week of use on a t-mobile us network. no problems at all, and I've ben getting amazing reception in the buildings ive had no service on att.

    i've been with sprint and t-mobile then cingular (now at&t) and i havent had any problems since. sprint was charging me up the ass for crappy service. t-mobile had waaaay too many deadspots and i live and work in one of the biggest cities in the u.s. so that's just ridicoulous. but after 3 years with cingular/at&t i've had ZERO problems. always have a signal. i cant remember ever dropping a call. and i rarely use costumer service but when i do its always been good. plus i got to keep my old plan from cingular when they changed over so i have more minutes for less money. bought my iphone went home and activated with my old number, the process took less than 2 minutes start to finish. even after i broke my iphone then pulled the ol' "i-don't-know-what-happened-i-just-pulled-it-out-to-make-a-phone-call-and-it-was-no-longer-working" routine with the apple guys who just swapped it out for another one, i just went home to reactivate it again in less than 2 minutes.
    long story short i'm more than happy with at&t and have NO need for the unlock. "anysim" or other....

    I was a longtime Verizon customer who switched to AT&T for the iPhone. Always loved Verizon's reception; hated their customer service. After 2 months with AT&T, I'm relatively satisfied. Customer service is about the same. I haven't noticed any difference in call quality, but I get worse signal in some areas and a better signal in others. I'm pretty sure Verizon does better inside buildings, but overall I haven't noticed much of a difference.

    All I can say is about T-Mobile is that with Verizon and now with AT&T, I've always been the one loaning out my phone to my friends with T-Mobile (and Sprint) when they've got no service. Seriously, T-Mobile looks like a good deal, and I'm sure they can't be the kind of bastards that Vze and AT&T are, but unless you never leave a major city you're probably better off dealing with lousy customer service and paying a little more.

    The sound quality is really what turned me off from att right away. Robot-like voice quality is something i can't digest at all. It gets insanely hard to unerstand people on the other end expecialy if you live in big noisy cities.

    I switched from T-Mobile to AT&T and then back to T-Mobile, all in the span of about 5 days. T-Mobile works at my house (not well, but it works) and works at my work (not well, but it works). AT&T worked great everywhere...except at my house despite AT&T's claim that I should get full coverage. Whenever I got within a ~300 yards, my signal would drop to zero and stay there.

    It's like the old Verizon slogan, "a phone is only as good as the network it's on" [paraphrased]. I'm not totally sold on T-Mobile, but at least it works where I live
