Default [AT&T data plan] AT&T is no help so i've come here

ok...so im on a family talk plan on att which includes unlimited text and multimedia messaging. the woman from att told me that if i added the iphone plan to my line that i wouldnt be eligible to be a part of that unlimited messaging. So my question is, since my phone is unlocked and att still thinks i have a samsung blackjack, could i just add an unlimited data to my plan like i would if i was adding it for a different phone? would that work? has anyone done anything like this? thanks!!!!

I wouldn't see why this would not work. Although something I would mention is that I *think* ATT can see what kind of phone you are on. I have called before after switching my sim card to another phone and they can verify the phone I am using. I dont know, it would not make much of a difference anyways...but to answer your questions, I do not see why you would not be able to just add unlimited data.

is anyone else currently doing this? id hate to do it and then get my bill and have it be $500. also, i thought it would be no problem to add the 20 dollar iphone plan to my line but still take advantage of the unlimited text messaging im already paying for. whats up wiht that?

If I add the unlimited medianet option to my current family plan, wouldn't that work just the same as the iphone-specific data plan? If it's unlimited, there should be no additional charges than the regular $15/month fee. Is there any speed differences between the medianet and the iphone-specific data plan? If not, I rather get the medianet plan and save $5/month, since I don't really care about visual voicemail.

Think of the $5/month (and activating officially through iTunes) as the assurance that future iPhone updates will work on your phone (and service line) as expected and don't require you to hacktivate or unlock your phone to get its potential (including visual voicemail). Plus you should also be able to keep the family texting plan active on the line.

Plus the MediaNet unlimited only goes per line, not across the entire plan (just like the iPhone data, it only works on the iPhone line).
