Does anyone have any information on the use of older AT&T Wireless (pre-Cingular) sim cards in the iPhone? I tried to hack my iPhone with instructions at hacktheiphone.net that supposedly lets you use any cingular or AT&T sim card with your iPhone.

There is this warning: (It has been brought to my attention that if your ICCID number begins with 893103801060, then you have an old style AT&T SIM and this procedure will not work. )
My sim starts with the first 5 numbers only but I was not able to activate the phone using this method.

SO... I'm wondering if I need to wait for the full software unlock or try the hardware unlock but am also nervous that perhaps this particular sim will not work with either method.

Anyone with knowledge or ideas?

I am in the same boat as you are: Pre-Cingular, an old ATT Wireless. I tried the hacktheiphone method and it did not work. Appearently, the old AT&T Wireless sim card is not compatible. Wait for the software unlock.

so you are saying that people with unlocked iphones cannot use the service on AT&T blue?? or have to unlocked your iphone yet. cause old att and new att are still different and alywas will be different. this is what im waiting for cause i mean its a whole different sim network service or whatever you want to call it, so i am not aware of an att blue sim working by dropping it into a non hacked iphone.

yeah i mean we know it dont work on locked phones. the hacktheiphone method...it dont carrier unlock. they even said so on their website. i want to know if you perform a carrier unlock if there are any conflicts on the network with the old att sim... that is if anyone has completed this operation.

if that sim works on another phone chances are it will also work on an hw or sw unlocked iPhone
