    Default [Sync] Outlook Pro 2007

My outlook had serious problems and i have to re-install it. The pst file is corrupt so i cannot input my emails and contact, etc back from that. With a fresh install what will happen when i try to sync my iphone? it wont erase the iphone's calendar and contacts since outlook will be blank will it?

Thanks for checking. I hope it can be recovered. I have tried several ways to repair with no luck, including the built in repair tool of outlook. For some reason, whenever this pst is accessed, my computer freezes. even when using a repair tool. My mouse will move as normal, but the computer does nothing, can't click start button, programs don't respond, nadda. I don't get it. I have a logitech G15 keyboard and it monitors CPU and memory usage. During a freeze, memory is normal, around 40% and CPU is at 0. Its very odd. So I haven't used Outlook in 2 weeks and my computer runs fine. I finally am at the point where I want to get outlook running again even if it means losing all my old emails But I don't want to lose all my iPhone files so I need to make sure a sync wont wipe it clean.

    alright.

im assuming that you are using win xp.

hit start>control panel>switch to classic view> and hit mail<then hit data files. this will open up a window with your outlook.pst file in it.

    hit the open folder button.
now make at least one copy of your outlook.pst file(example: outlookback1.pst, outlookback2.pst) leave one or two in this folder as well as coping them to other folders just incase this is not nessesary but recommended. now you need to copy one of these outlook.pst files to a folder on you desktop.

    now navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12 and look for scanpst.exe not scanost.exe.

hit browse and go to the file you copied to your desktop. hit start
after it finishes, a window will pop up that tells you to make a backup. just make sure thats checked(not a big deal if it isnt because you made some backups already.

then go ahead and hit repair. when its done just copy the repaired file back into
    C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
MAKE SURE THE NEW REPAIRED FILE IS NAMED OUTLOOK.PST

fire up outlook and see if it works. just post back here or send me a PM if its not working

i know what you mean, i have about 5000 emails in my outlook and mine got corrupted but i managed to repair it.

maybe if you know someone else with outlook 2007 you can copy your .pst file to their computer and then repair it and copy it back

So frustrating. So when I copied the file, just accessing it to copy it caused the computer to stall. After restarting and going back to the folder, i found that it actually had copied the file. Ok, something good. Same file size so i figured must have worked even with the restart. So I dragged that file to the desktop and ran the repair tool. It ran (always stalled with original file). Upon finishing I got an error "An error has occurred which caused the scan to be stopped. No Changes have been made to the scanned file."

I'm at a loss as of what to do with this situation.

well i would try to copy that file to a flash drive and then try it on another computer. just copy that aswell as the scanpst.exe file to a flash drive and run them on a different computer. then just copy the file back again.

    Your drive could be corrupted.
Run a chkdsk /f and see if it fixes it.

I tried to copy to a flash drive, same stall happened as when i tried copying to my internal HD. A file is there and i'll try to use it on another computer, but i doubt things will work.

    I did chksk already.

    Any other ideas?

If I have to resort to either re-installing outlook or starting a new profile, wil i lose the data on my iphone when i sync to a clean outlook?
