Support the 3rd party struggle
Here is a way I just saw on someone's blog. not sure which blogger it was. But the idea is to send Apple feedback on the iPhone.
Even if it wont change anyone's mind. At least we tried all we could do.
Thx for supporting!
That's a very good idea. Also, if you feel passionately about it, writing Steve Jobs "directly" could help.
(His personal assistant will filter and select letters to present to him. If you are polite, you may get through.)
It seemed to work for the $100 rebate...
Here's a template to get you started:
Dear Mr Jobs,
I purchased an iPhone soon after it became available for $599.
As I live outside the US, and there is no AT&T in Lower Botswana [insert your country here], and you have no plans to sell it here for like, ever, I was forced to use a wonderful little utility to unlock it.
I'm sorry that I was a bit naughty to do this, but really, I had no choice. I'm sure you understand.
I really love the phone and think whoever started the project is a genius (it was you, wasn't it, Steve!).
I have also installed some wonderful apps on it, that were created by passionate developers, one of them an employee of Wil Shipley, the guy that's been supporting your projects ever since the NeXT days. Remember those? Fun times, sticking it to the man. Not really making money because you didn't have many users, but hey.
Other developers claim much longer support, dating back to a device called a "Macintosh" and that they "bleed six colors" but I have no idea what that means. Maybe it's because they eat too much American junk food?
Anyway, these creative apps, particularly the SummerBoard and its wonderful themes, have so impressed my friends and relatives that some of them have also bought iPhones. That's another six iPhones you've sold because of mine. And they are showing them to their friends and relatives. I understand there is a shampoo motif in there somewhere.
Maybe that's how you got to one million so quickly! Congratulations, by the way.
However, I am very concerned that you are now planning to:
(1) destroy my lovely iPhone if I attempt to update it through iTunes,
(2) prevent the creation of these innovative 3rd party apps,
(3) deny me the opportunity to have bugs fixed (it's a wonderful phone, but there's just this annoying little bug where Safari crashes when I listen to the iPod at the same time...)
Naturally, I am rather sad that you feel it necessary to do this. I really like my iPhone and would like to continue showing it to others on my frequent trips around the planet. Going to be a little hard after you've destroyed it, but I guess I can show them how nice the chrome surround looks on the dead screen.
Your biggest fan. For now.

Good idea, they do seem to respond. Here is what I sent (my own personal feelings)
I am one of your typical "new wave" of Apple enthusiasts who after many years of using a PC, moved to the Mac and bought into everything from AppleTV to the iPhone. I bought the stock and through my own efforts probably sold at least 15 mac's based on the fact that people ask me what I think is good. I have moved my company from PC's to Mac's and installed AppleTV's in my house. I thought the iPhone was the ultimate phone and praised Apple for creating a great usable device.
My thoughts re Apple have now changed radically. The statements that directly threaten and target your best customers who have installed 3rd party apps has demonstrated to me that the company really does not care about its natural evangelists and its most important users. I purchased the phone for a lot of money, I paid for a stupid ATT contract even though I had a business contract, then 3rd party apps started appearing that made the device more usefull and leveraged the power of the device. I installed them. Apple then decides that I cant do this to MY device and threatens to remotely kill my device. Sounds like the 3rd reich to me... Whats next, will Steve tell me that I can only download music he approves of onto my iPod and can I only watch certain shows on my AppleTV (actually that is kind of true if you just use the Apple store to get tv content).
I have now changed my mind about Apple.I sold my stock (200% return is ok, i should not be greedy) and I am very suspicious of Apple. Right now Microsoft look like the dream team.
