Default Suggest a FW for my iPhone 2G

    Hi guys (and gals),

I just got my 2G iPhone a week ago. I have been mucking about, jailbreaking, unlocking (have to cos it is not supported here in SA), and trying different FW versions.

I had 2.1, it seemed a but laggy, so I downgraded to 1.1.4, which was a bit faster but I lost out on the apps (seems that cydia and installer are really focussing on 2.0 apps these days).

So a question for the experts - what FW would you suggest for me, and please tell me why briefly.

BTW - this seems like a great community - I learned a lot from here while going through a teething phase with the iPhone. Look forward to being around here now that I have delurked

    Hi, welcome to the forum

Next time, please search before post.

How is 2.1 compare to 1.1.4?

The lag/instability in 2.1 is bearable, and the added features seal the deal. I wouldn't even consider going back to 1.1.4 personally (not that I can on my 3G anyway).

You've just summed up the trade-off between 1.1.4 and 2.1.
1.1.4 is the best of the 1.x series, and 2.1 is the best to date of the 2.x series. Choose between them.

Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.

Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
    * on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
    * on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).
