After bricking my first a week ago (before even starting the hack) I was much more careful this time.. hit the minicom issue, fixed w/:
"launchctl","remove com.apple.CommCenter","exit"
..after which all went smoothly.

Nice, congrats man. I'm in Toronto too, I did it a couple of weeks ago with no problems - actually soldered a switch instead of using needles, but same thing i suppose, left the wires in there in case I need to connect the switch ever again.
