Still have 1.02... should I finally update to 1.12?
Hey guys,
I looked around for an answer to this but I'm getting alot of conflicting opinions. I've owned my iphone since August and soft-hacked it the hard way (not AnySim) the minute the instructions came out. And I haven't really felt a need to upgrade since. I'm running 1.02 and I see that I'm now behind two versions in the firmware. But I have yet to see any compelling evidence to force me to upgrade.
Was wondering if you guys could let me know if its worth it. I don't use the ITunes store, so its not a big draw for me. Are there any other compelling upgrades in the firmware that will make my life easier?
Thanks alot in advance!

It's highly possible that you have corrupted baseband, so you would have to revirginize it.
Next, I recommend 1.1.1 update and no 1.1.2.
What 1.1.1 brings you?
• Double click Home » Contacts
• Double click Home while playing music » small popup with iPod controls
• Double click Home while playing music + locked » lock screen expands to fit the controls
• While playing music, you see name of the song on lock screen under clock
• Double tap space » dot + space
• International support. You can change language (if you know how)
• International characters, just tap key and hold to see small menu
• Automated SMS messages (aka "mailers") are more likely to get through
• Louder speaker
• TV Out
• "Contacts" item in settings (hiding sort & display order)
• Plenty of 3rd party apps, written by developers sitting on 1.1.1 (= little or no errors)
• iTunes Wi-Fi Store
• Starbucks Store access
• New calculator icon (ya, rly)
• New "connect to iTunes" graphic

If you're using an unlocked phone with a carrier that uses text messages to notify you of your voicemails, they work in 1.1.2, and they didn't work before. I'm on Fido in Canada and now I can finally get my voicemail notifications and not have to check myself all the time.
The CPU speed has also been bumped from 400mhz to 412mhz in 1.1.2, but I really don't notice too much of a difference.
If the voicemail is an issue for you, 1.1.2 is a great update. I'm happy I went to it. Otherwise, you should update to 1.1.1 at the very least. The jailbreak process is so damn easy that I don't understand why you wouldn't. Once you revirginize, the process to jailbreak and unlock takes less than 10 mins to accomplish with jailbreakme.com and anySim 1.1 from installer.

"Free" custom ringtones means what? I can make ringtones out of MP3s without paying 99 cents, even if I didn't buy the MP3 from the itunes music store???
