Cannot anyone give me and problably many other non-us residents needy people, a step by step guide on how to get as much functionality from your iphone as possible, i.e. ipod, wifi, and so on. A guide that explains all you got to do to get maximum functionality, even though it's locked.

Im getting my Iphone next week, and i want to know what to do from the point i'm plugging the iphone into itunes..

I, and probably many others, would be very grateful if someone could help with this.

Are you using Mac or PC iTune to connect ?
If you are using Mac it will be very easy to get the things done .

I was also woried, but both solutions, for Mac e PC works like a charm. I get my iPhone charged, connected to the Mac and it was deactivated in a matter of seconds.

I agree, this thread would be a useful summary of the current situation. I'm getting mine on Monday and so would also appreciate a synopsis of what is available.

1 specific question tho - I resident in HK but have a US iTunes Store account using a friends US credit card. if i use the DVD Jon method and hack the iTunes binary could that potentially screw u my Store account ?

As far as I know, there's 3 ways to bypass AT&T and activate the iPhone as wiPod:
DVD Jon - for Mac and PC, the original solution requires a mess with hexadecimals. nothing hard...
Anderson Technologies - for Mac - Just type the commands on the Terminal and you are good to go.
And finally, the pqdvd.net solution for PC, which I think it's just an interface for the DVD Jon method.
I used Anderson's. Activated and Deactivated many times. Works fine. You get all capabilities of iPhone, except the phone and youtube.

Here's from Anderson Tech blog:
Here is how:

1.) Download the following file to your Mac. iPhoneTool.zip

2.) Extract it to a directory on your desktop named iPhoneTool

3.) Open the program “Terminal” location in HardDrive/Applications/Utilities

4.) Type the following command into the flashing cursor:

cd ~/Desktop/iPhoneTool

5.) Now make sure your iPhone is connected and you quit iTunes

6.) To activate your iPhone type the follwoing command into the flashing cursor (note that there are two dashes before activate):

./tool –activate a.plist

7.) Your iPhone screen should say something about a SIM error which is fine. Just slide the unlock bar over and it should work. Now connect it to your computer and you should be able to configure it through iTunes.

Once you activate it, just go to Settings, WiFi, connect to your WiFi network and you are good to go.
