    Default SpringBoard keeps restarting

    Hi

After installing some apps (cant remember exactly what apps) "Categories" didnt work anymore. SpringBoards restarts itself endlessly until the iphone hangs completely. Since i have ssh access, i was able to remove the SpringBoard launcher from System/Library/LaunchDaemons. Now the iPhone doesnt hang after some minutes, but since it doesnt start SpringBoard it is not functional too ... :-/

    How can i install / update stuff (especially Springboard/Categories ) via ssh-shell ? How can i remove Software (e.g. Categories ...) ?

Thanks for any Hints, im lost without the iPhone ...

    Sebastian.

nah, i wanna fix it. I got a little bit further:

I removed BigBoss/hiddenicons.txt from mobiles' config, removed 'Categories' from /var/mobile/Library and started SpringBoard by hand. Then i could see a lot of interesting logs:

What messages are expected? What about the sqlite error?

Interesting is that my data seems to be gone (calendar is empty)

Does this help anyone in helping me ??

    TIA for any hints ...

Update: SInce i started SpringBoard as root, some errors are expected (empty database e.g.)

When i start SpringBoard after "su mobile" i get:

2008-04-17 22:07:28.067 SpringBoard[224:d03] Couldn't created shared memory GSCapabilities, Permission denied
    zsh: bus error /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/SpringBoard

    Is that expected?

BTW: Is this the right forum ??

Ok, finally im on the right track: the file

    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist

seems to be corrupted. All other files are xml, this one contains binary garbage ...

Since i can start SpringBoard as root painlessly, it seems the Program is ok only the launcher is corrupted. Could someone post that file ??

    Thanks alot.

I seem to have exactly the same problem. Assuming SpringBoard's .plist file is meant to contain the same type of XML as the others, mine is also corrupt.

I was wondering - could there be a backup copy stored by iTunes? If so, where on a Mac would it be stored?

I'm going to check what common elements there are in these plist files to see if I can reconstruct SpringBoard's one.

Hmm, on closer inspection, I don't think that's going to work.

Incidentally, I can't seem to do a restore. Neither ZiPhone nor iTunes see the iPhone when I plug it in.
