    Default speaker problem

I just noticed that my iphone speaker sudden stopped working. I can't play music through the speaker, can't hear/talk on incoming/outgoing calls, and basically no overall sound. The sound does work via the headphone. Can anyone please help me out???

btw...I am currently using an unlocked version with firmware 1.0.2

First try restoring. If that doesn't work, it's a hardware problem that must be fixed by Apple unless you want to risk fixing it yourself (I don't recommend it).

I read that if I restore the phone using itunes, it will automatically download the upgrade. Is there a way to restore the phone without connecting it to itunes?

You can download an older version of iTunes that thinks 1.0.2 is the current version.

There should be a link floating around somewhere in these forums.

Try pluging in earphones and playing music then take them out sometimes resolves this problem.
A few people have posted this problem, others have solved by restoring try holding the home button and plugging in usb, if all else fails you can try restoring the bb by flashing the fls and eep files, search for posts on virgin restore. This will require you to unlock all over again.
    Good luck

i have a similar problem, first my speaker sound started making scratchy/popping noises. Now it will only work once in a while. I suspect a hardware problem though, since when i push down on the screen at the top left hand corner of the iphone (close to the earphone plug) i get some sound reaction. I guess somewhere under that part of the phone in my case there is something faulty. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know, returning the phone for me is not possible, i am no longer in the country where i purchased the iphone, so i may be *$%$ out of luck.
