Default sms problems with vodafone italy.

    Hey there,

after unlocking my iphone, i checked everything and all was ok (calls IN/OUT, sms IN/OUT and DATA). After few days i noticed that the service (vodafone.it offers) that send you a sms if someone called you when your phone was OFF didn't work. anyone here with the same prob ?? (maybe this is for italian users)

    thx in advance.
    Snake.

    Default Sounds strange...

So what happens, if you switch of your phone, is there a mailbox ? Or are you just having this "if you want to leave a SMS press 1" anouncement ?

Yesterday after unlocking all went fine. But today I cannot send or receive sms ny more. I have had a problem today with synch and have done a reset. That might be the problem that it destroyd the sms database?

there isn't a problem with sms, nope. I continue to receive/send text normally. Let me explain this. When you shut down the phone and after a period of time turn on again you usually receive sms from people that tried to call the number off-line. well now with my iphone-turbosim-unlocked-affair this doesn't happen. ther rest works fine.

    any answer ??

I believe you're talking about the 'Who Called?' feature? (that's what they call it on Vodafone New Zealand)

For those who aren't aware of what the original poster is talking about, it's basically a (free) service that lets you know (via TXT message) if people have called you while your phone has been out of service range or if your phone has been turned off. It's really handy because a lot of the time people don't leave you a Voicemail message - in which case you'd never find out that they had called because your phone never got a chance to intercept the call (thus it won't log a missed call) and the caller never left a Voicemail message.

It seems that it must be something to do with the iPhone still receiving stuff even though it's turned off? Try turning off your iPhone and then calling it from another cellphone or landline, and see if you go straight to Voicemail or if the phone actually rings.

I'm not very clued up when it comes to this kind of thing though so I'm probably completely wrong

I don't actually have an iPhone yet, I'm waiting to see if TurboSIMs can be produced again and therefore shipped to me in New Zealand (only need 1 of them). I don't want to risk buying an iPhone and then hearing that there'll be no more TurboSIMs and thus no using the iPhone with my 3G SIM!

Let me know how you get on with the Who Called TXT messages though. My next best guess is that there's a system within the iPhone to 'convert' those kind of TXT messages into Visual Voicemail, which obviously doesn't work unless you're with AT&T - so the end result is that the TXT gets intercepted by the iPhone and then converted into nothing, all without you knowing.
