sms from non-numeric sender seems fixed in 1.1.1
I just started to receive messages from my ISP and others using non-numeric sender information - a welcomed feature in 1.1.1 I think ;-)
It does however cut the sender name to max 7 chrs - not sure if this is a network thing though?

Nice, does that mean you're getting Salik notifications again? Or just the Etisalat ones?
I saw your guide to upgrading, nice to hear you have everything working.

aiphone, tell me more. You're talking about webSMS and not VM notifications? Is that correct?

We've been told that this is not fixed in 1.1.1. Did you try this with other services with named senders? How about flash SMS?

Well I seem to be getting it all - I tried to call directory service here and when you receive the number they send you an SMS with the details as well - I was not able to get that on 1.0.2 for sure - I also got a news alert which I was not able to get before either - as far as I can see it al works.
I have not set my Voicemail up as I don't want that service - just a personal perference as you have no excuse for not calling back ;-)

I understand now. OK, with 1.0.2 and 1.1.1 I received/receive those types of messages. I guess it depends on how your operator sends them out and the characteristics of the sender's address -- i.e. strings or numbers.
What 1.1.1. still hasn't learned to do is act upon Flash SLS messages. Most operators use these to signal that a VM is waiting for you, however in some countries they send normal SMS. These are received by iphone's BB and then lost forever.

So is this a fact now:
With 1.1.1 you can receive sms from unusual numbers but
With 1.1.1 you cannot still receive flash sms?
What do you mean by cutting senders name to 7 chars?
Only showing the 7 first ones or just accepting sms's from senders < 8 chars?
Have an 8 digit servicenr. I use quite a lot so I have to go for the upgrade then..
Snowbird:
As you mentioned in the other thread,
"All, I just wanted to mention that I upgraded to 1.1.1 tonight and, as expected, the new firmware does not correct this problem. It's nearly 5AM and I'm going to bed."
this was only about the Flash messages?

It cuts it off at 7 chrs - you still get the message just the sender name gets cut off.

Wow, this is cool. This single feature, allowing me to receive SMS from named senders, makes me go for 1.1.1 as soon as dev team come up with stable solution for anySIM'ed 1.0.2. Thanks for info!

Yep, but lets hope that there will be a patch for 1.0.2 before that so you don't have to hurry with the upgrade..
Could it be so hard now with a solution in 1.1.1?
