    Default SMS applicaiton VERY SLOW

I have a new 16gb iPhone that was originally 1.1.3 but upgraded to 1.1.4 and activated/unlocked/jailbroken with ZiPhone.

Everything is fine except that the sms application is PAINFULLY slow. I have seen some threads discussing this issue on the web but strangely I haven't found one here.

Is anyone else having the same issue? Any clue as to what is causing it and how it can be fixed?

I had an 8gb iPhone before this full of contacts and media and sms was fine so it can't be how many contacts you have etc. like some are suggesting.

    Thanks.

I recently upgrade from v1.1.2 OTB to v1.1.4 ... I had backed up the sms.db file, and restored it after my upgrade.

That is when I noticed the "slowness" of the sms.app.

I have also read all of the other threads out there, have removed my sms.db file, and started from scratch.

Basically, I have no idea. If anyone else can help ... please!

(As I remember) If you patched the AppSupport for matching the numbers from your phonebook and left all the countries in the /System/Library/Frameworks/AppSupport.framework/Support/PhoneNumberTemplate.txt , the sms.app can be slow.
Remove some unused countries, reboot and try again.

I'm on 1.1.4 and it can take a while to load the SMS app. I suspect it's the downside of threaded conversations.

aberas, that response looks promising.... I tried to edit the PhoNumberTemplate.txt file but first of all, instead of a .txt file, under Vista it shows up as a .plist file and when I opened it in notepad it had all kinds of weird characters.. i.e. the encoding was different not ascii or anything readable/editable. Am i missing something?

    Thanks.

You can not edit a binary format plist with a text editor. You either need a plist editor or convert the plist to xml format so that you can use a text/xml editor.
