no service comes after i have no bars on display. the behaviour is the same as with my first iphone: sleep mode --> no bars --> no service.

sometimes it could lose the network right in the middle of the call and result in no service immediately.

and sometimes it would not show no service, but i still wouldn't be able to receive or make calls.

totally frustrated and don't know where to start..
    i know your feeling!
it's really wierd that you had this problem with 2 iphone!
obviously you tried different sim on that!?

    Well,
I think I have the same problem and it is my third iPhone...

The last I have is a sealed iPhone from week 01. I put it in dfu mode, restored to 1.1.3, unlocked using ziphone 2.4 windows (using the full automatic.bat file). Then I installed the bsd subsystem, the fix of the bsd subsystem and the community sources 3.6. I configured the phone for wifi but I did not configured the edge settings.

The problem appeared within a couple of hours: when I exit sleep mode, the reception bars go to no bars, then "no signal" appears for a few seconds then I am back to full reception. When I try to call my iPhone when I am in sleep mode, generally the phone does not ring and I am directed to my voicemail. I also noticed that I do not seem to have this problem when phone is plugged to usb.

Then what I did is I restored to 1.1.3 three consecutive times and then I repeated the same unlock. Problem was still here. Then I tried to use my wife's seem card (she's with FIDO while I am with Rogers). It worked perfectly for more than one day. I was happy as I thought I found the problem. I bought a new sim from rogers, get it activated, crossed my fingers and put it into my phone. It worked for all the afternoon!!!

This morning, I noticed the problem is back again. I put the FIDO card of my wife and the problem appeared almost immediatly. It is really frustrating. One interesting thing that I noticed is that as my wife sim card is locked with a password, the phone did asked me to enter the password when I exit sleep mode... as if it was turned off.

As I experienced this problem with other phones, I tried to think what could be the thing that makes the problem appearing as it does work sometime. I did not find. The things I did before I get the pb on my last phone is to put in on a jbl speaker base, i had the message about interferences and I put the phone into airplane mode. But this cannot be the problem I guess...

With my previous phone I had the same problem and sometime, I had the screen saying that a repair is needed and to contact apple support.

no, i did not try another sim as i don't have one. i tend to think that the problem is either with iphone (hardware wise) or with software unlock.

i am curious if that is software unlock affecting it. however in this case many people would complain and i don't see that. only few left who has it.

on the other hand it is my 2nd iphone and it is unlikely that it would have exactly same issue isn't it?

anyway, my current sim works perfectly with non-iphone cell phone. full network coverage anywhere (i'm in london) so it is not the provider but the goddamn iphone :-)

welcome to the club. so you had it in three phones and i had in two. interesting though that when calling applecare i asked if that was the known issue with iphones and the answer was no. it is not a major thing and no recall was made. meaning it is unlock related. or am i wrong?

I think is better to try at least another sim just to say it's ok.

The iphone is different from normal cell.
the problem sometimes is the communication between the phone and the software.

i have an old sim that goes in a loop finding signal and sometimes it get.
with my current sim i have always full bar.

If you switch airplane mode on/off did you get the signal and then no service?

i had full bar in the first iphone, but anytime it went into sleep mode i would miss a call.

this 'new' one behaves a little differently although as i think the problem is the same. it wakes up okay in 90% but loses connectivity afterwards or during the call when no sleep mode is in place.

i would try the other sim but i currently dont have any around. and yes, i played with airplane mode, restarting the iphone every time i changed it to on or off, but it didn't help. last attempt was yesterday and i gave up.

could very well be so. i read that thread too in apple discussions, but most people just went on and got their phones replaced. i did that too but you know the result already. so not sure what to do next.

the only reason could be that refurbished iphone are always the same, they go in and out after a restore!
