I got my iPhone in early november, the problem started occuring 3-4 days after I used it.
Dealt with it for ages, until I found the iPod trick.
Oracinus problems works fantastic, I don't need to worry about missing calls or texts anymore, unfortunately, the battery life is obviously the problem. My friend leaves his iPhone on for a 3-4 days before charging it, when I charge it almost everytime I go to sleep.
Great solution oracinus! :]
hello peeps just wanted some input...the phone has been with me since september and now that we're travelling to the u.s this month i'm planning to have my defective iphone exchanged for a new one? is this a new one? ive read through that they usually give refurbs as exchange units so might be problematic again?
*goin to virginize iphone before returning
thanks in advance
I did the same ... revirginized the phone, updated it to the latest firmware and took it to the Apple store.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Apple Store personnel would not even listen to you if you do not have an AT&T activated phone. This is a prerequisite for any repairs under warranty. I did get a prepaid connection for a week and was able to get my phone replaced. None of the above solutions worked for me.
Now I am back in business with the iPhone performing well.
Good Luck with your return.

Look at the Dec. 4 th comments about the iphones in France.
Anybody with real Apple & AT&T support can call them to verify ? or ask somebody at an Apple store?
Usage statistics with Oracinus fix ?
After upgrading to 1.1.2, I now get usage statistics with Oracinus fix, previously on 1.1.1, I would only get ------
My typical statistics between a complete full charge to complete dead battery:
Usage: 1 Day 10 hours **
Standby: 1 Day 10 hours **
Current Period: 1 Hour 30 minutes
**Usage time is always the same as Standby time? (Is this normal? or does this mean it never goes on standby, only constant usage!)
When I re-charge completely, the Usage and Standby numbers automatically go to 0, I then do a 'reset statistics' and my Call Time: Current Periond is reset to 0.
During this period, Bluetooth is off and WiFi is mostly off. I only occasionally check stock quotes and weather, then I turn it off again. Screen usage mostly off (autolock set to 2 min, so screen is only on during dialing, contact lookup, or answering the phone). During this time I did not use the Ipod functions.
I've repeated this test several times in the last month and the numbers have been pretty consistent.
Apple claims a full battery charge gives:
8 hours of talk time 'or/is equivalent to' 250 hours of standby time (I verified this on a working phone)
1 hour of talk time = 31.25 hours of standby time
My 1.5 hours of talk time = 47.25 hours standby time.
I should have 250-47.25 = 202.75 hours left over.
But I only have 32.5 hours (34 - 1.5) of standby time left over.
So where are my other 170.25 hours gone? (approx. 3.6 hours talk time)
32.5 hours of standby on a broken phone = 202.75 hours on a good phone
therefore broken phone is only 16% as efficient as a good phone.
Well, I probably over analysed this to death! I'm curious about how others are coping with this 'broken' phone.
The ocarinus fix disables its sleep mode, your phone can't go to sleep, because you deleted the "savepower" file.
So it's sort of like having an mp3 play, except without actually having to do it. So your phone never goes to "proper" sleep, it's always on.
My personal statistics not compared to apple specific.

Really frustrated !
It's weird that if you put a calendar event and ask to ring 5/10 minutes before, the phone wake up and rings!!!!!!
Bastard iphone!!!so you are able to do it!!!
Actually, it's not that weird.

And the problem seems to be in the baseband / its firmware, or somewhere between the OS and the baseband.

I have the same problem with the phone except with text messages. I have done several tests and the text messages always come in it is just the phone calls that do not. Other interesting thing is that if I call and let it ring once or twice then hang up and call again it picks up normally.
Another interesting thing that I noticed is ( which everyone knows) that when you are by speaker and the phone is getting a signal it interferes with the speakers and you hear a buzzing. Well when I call the phone it immediately interferes with my speakers even though it does not pick up or notify me. Would this not only confirm that the hardware is working and that it could be software related.
I hope I have not posted anything redundant here just wanted some of the experts opinions.
