this is identical to how ATT is, the phone will only work with a sim that iTunes authenticates. im positive the activation process will be identical other than the ATT logos will be O2.

when you buy your phone you will have the option to say "im already an O2 customer" and you put in your number or what ever and you are done they set you up with a new plan and contract specifically for the iphone and its active.

buying an iphone and putting an O2 sim thats already on an account will still leave the phone at "please connect to iTunes" iphone is not capable itself of getting past that screen, we know this. hence the iAsign utility and now the lockdownd method of placing the phone in a factory activated state.

Well, if it were embedded in the device it is not going to get damaged, it's no different to any other component. Although I agree with the concensus that the UK phone will be no different to the US one, it is a plausible scenario and would have made sense for Apple to do from day 1 if they really wanted to protect against alien sims.

How old are you? 10? 12? Do you know what the GSM standard is? Why don't you go for some GSM Info first before posting such crap and wasting bandwidth? Thanks.
