Default SIM PIN - how can I change it?

I tried to activate the SIM PIN on my iPhone but unfortunately I entered the wrong PIN twice and I didn't want to risk a third try because this would lock the AT&T SIM. Does somebody know if the AT&T SIM has a initial PIN like 0000 for example or if it has been assigned by AT&T or in the activation process?
First PIN I tried was the PIN which came with the AT&T phone number for the iPhone after I activated the iPhone. It didn't work. Then, I changed the PIN in the webinterface for managing the GoPhone account. I tried the changed PIN and it didn't work either. I have ONE more try and if this isn't working, the SIM card is locked. So if you know the right PIN (or where I may find it), please help. Thanks.

I bought the iPhone, the AT&T SIM card was already inside of it.
There was no information in the package regarding the SIM card, no PIN, no PUK, simply nothing.
When I activated the GoPhone account with AT&T, I got my phone number and a PIN for being able to login to my GoPhone customer account. When I logged in for the first time, I have been asked to change my PIN. I changed it and I tried this PIN on the iPhone too. Same thing: doesn't work. I have one try left, if I enter the wrong PIN again, the SIM card is locked and it can only be unlocked with a PUK I never received. Don't get me wrong: my iPhone isn't SIM/PIN locked right now, the SIM/PIN lock is deactivated. I just wanted to activate the PIN for security reasons (when the phone is finally working...I live in Germany ) but I can't.

    Any hints?

If Hawk123's reply doesn't help, you could always call/email AT&T's customer service and ask for the PUK code - I used to help people with that problem all the time when I used to work for a carrier.

yeah dude... it was his first post but he gave you something to research further into... 1 microsecond of googling says he is probably correct, and also pointed me to this: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=3934845 which also makes me thing Hawk123 is correct....

I'm honestly apologizing, sorry for accusing you of doing something "bad".
1111 is indeed the default PIN, I tried it and it works.
Thanks a lot and again: please accept my sincere apologies!!!
