Does anyone have experience with what happens when you insert a SIM from another operator? Is the simcard content totally unavilable? Or does the iPhone read SMS and Contacts?

I checked with my local supplier of Apple equipement who also do service in Norway on all Apple products. He told me he would be happy to flash my iPhone with no operator lock firmware as soon as he has the official tools which he also was expecting apple to supply in some months time.
