Exclamation Sign an agreement not to resell??

My friend went to the Apple store today and bought 5 iPhones, and the clerk at the Apple Store asked her to sign a contract! The contract basically binds her not to unlock and resell the phone.

Has anyone heard about this? Can this contract harm the phone or her credit to buy more phone in any way?

That's pretty normal. I got hit with the contract before...and i DID NOT sign it. not only will apple have more of a "record" on you, but if you sign it and do NOT follow their terms, it is very illegal, vs. being in the "gray" area at this point.

Also, as I was told before I was supposed to sign the contract, they had to see my I.D. and the info will be sent up to corporate to evaluate...so regarding her future purchases, the best way would be not to buy so many, and to pay in cash so there are no further records of her purchasing more.

All you do to get around this is she "gives" the phones to you and you sell them for her. Then you give her the money back. Simple as that. You did not want the gift she gave you and you sold it.

From my understanding, I think Apple is just trying to deter people from reselling the phone. I am doubtful that Apple will do anything in case my friend really resell the 5 phones. The number of phones seems too few that it would worth Apple's effort to go legal...

Why the fuck could you not resell something that you bought?
    APPLE IS FALLING APART!!!
This is ridiculous and something must be done!
    ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!
This is worse the DRM this is JRM! (Job's Rights Management!)
This puts an awful feeling in many people including me that apple is just going to shit.
They are starting to remind me of Microsoft as well they delayed Leopard as well as the iPhone and now there new touch doesn't let you do anything.

taficke, I couldn't agree with you more... To me, it seems like Apple is desperate... Maybe AT&T is excercising their force on Apple...

I also think that Apple's reducing 200USD from the iPhones was a result from increasing the sales for AT&T...

I dont know what Job's is up to these days...

you are not going to like this... but...

All Apple are trying to do is protect their Brand. They have spent huge amounts of money building a worldwide brand and this must be protected.

Apple do not want Joe Bloggs selling their product from the spare room of their house on the internet. It removes the branding and feeling that Apple wants their customers to feel as they walk into either an offical Apple Store or an authorised reseller.

Apple do know know these internet onsellers from a bar of soap. They dont know what their support policy is, they dont know what their business ethics are. They really would not want to open the brand up for devaluation or potential unhappy customers.

You may not like it but this is what Apple wants. Its their product and Brand and they do have a right to dictate how this is sold and treated

    Who cares.
Reselling a product you bought is totally legal.
Unlocking a phone you bought is totally legal.
Helping someone else unlock their phone is totally legal.

It's ok for Apple to break the law? Since when did they start putting money in your pocket to be their spokesperson?

    Goddamn apologists...
