You're having the same problem as this guy in this thread:

    http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6724

maybe you two can go through what you've already tried to figure out the solution (sorry, that's the best i can help, but i'm trying).

I finally got access to the field test screen and I checked under "versions" it gives the LCD ID but for the firmware it's blank, does that mean the commboard is stuffed? is there a way to fix it?

Aha! This I might be able to help you with. It happened to me when I was downgrading the baseband on a 1.0.2 to 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 phone.

    I used Stealth's guide: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10863

And at Step 11, I stopped to check the firmware on the phone by dialing *3001#12345#* and it gave me a blank:

    From the guide:

    11. run " bbupdater -v " it will tell you you run version 3.14
    12. from here use any of your favorite programs like ibrickr to install anySim 1.2 and successfully recover your iphone from a 1.1.1 update.

I fixed it by doing this:

Sorry if it's too detailed and you know how to SSH in already...

Connect the phone to WiFi, get the IP Address and use Putty to get in (root/dottie).
    Once in, type:

    launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

    and hit enter.
and to double check, I did it again:

    launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

    and hit enter.

The second time, it will return with something like "CommCenter already loaded."

Close the connection and check the phone again by *3001#12345#*...this time, where firmware is supposed to be, you should be able to see 3.14

And if this way doesn't work, I suggest following Stealth's or Carlos' guide to downgrading/unlocking 1.1.1 and do all the steps from the beginning.

    I hope that helps.

    Wink

Thanks everybody for your help. I decided to sell the bricked iphone because I had a suspicion that the guy who sold the phone knew that the phone was beyond repair (maybe a hardware problem) I talked to a very experienced eletrical engineer who also does unbricking and he told me that this phone has little hope. So I decided to sell the asap (easier said than done) I took a risk and it backfired on me big time, if you want to know how it feels like take $250 go to your toilet and flush it down. For the last 24 hours I was kicking my self for taking such a risk. I finally managed to sell it for the same price and its a big relief. I learned my lesson and right now I'm content with my 1.1.1 phone even though it's still locked. I'm going to wait another week for a reliable unlock is released. I'm not going to take more stupid risks LOL.
