You know what? I've invented a cold fusion desktop reactor. I'd tell you how I did it, but don't really feel like it. Nyah!

Not buying it. Translation is rough, if anyone who ACTUALLY speaks Russian wants to step in, that'd be great.

I always admired Eldar Murtazin for his (early) reviews of various phones but this time, I think he doesn't really know what he is talking about. I'm actually surprised that he says that the iPhone isn't so good, that the iPhone doesn't merit that much attention and his remark about "sick" Apple fan boys is a punch below the belt, even I as a major Windows user would never say that.

So the questions is: why does Eldar Murtazin say what he says? Maybe Apple refused to provide a free unlocked iPhone for testing and Eldar got mad at Apple? Nokia, HTC and others are well known to send Eldar their latest stuff, even months ahead of the launch time, to test them.

It is also my understanding that he doesn't claim that he can receive calls or SMS, he says that he can use the phone. At least this what I understood from the Babelfish translation of the link you posted.

My personal opinion, sorry to say that about somebody like Eldar: his claims are a bag of bull. I have so many mobile phones here in my office, almost everything Eldar ever tested in his reviews. The iPhone may not be the best GSM phone on the market and the lack of 3G is a major flaw in the whole concept of the phone but otherwise, the iPhone is an impressive piece of innovative technology and even I who is used to the latest gadgets was pretty much impressed when I saw and used the iPhone for the first time.

His claims that his iPhone is completely unlocked and that everybody can do it
(could someone post a better translation?) are a bag of bull too in my opinon.
Maybe Apple didn't bow to the russian "king" of cell phones, who knows? Maybe this is why his claims seem to be full of "bitterness". If somebody could translate Eldar's words a bit more precisely, maybe I'm wrong.

Sorry, Eldar but maybe the iPhone is something you don't understand and looking at the fact that there is no russian iTunes Shop yet, I can understand why the iPhone may not be too important for him. Still: the innovative touchscreen and OS software are excellent, this is something nobody could have overlooked.

Google translation posted above. What I'd like to find is someone who speaks russian to go over it with me. Hurt eyes translation butterflies reading banana. Err... I mean: My eyes hurt reading the translations.

OK, maybe I'm wrong but trying to read and understand the translation of his words, I think that Eldar is actually...lying. He didn't even really use the iPhone, this is why he isn't impressed (EVERY tech lover would be impressed, believe me!).
He apparently confuses the unlock process with the activation process, he probably read about it somewhere and got the wrong impression.

I may be wrong but I read two translations (Google and Bablefish) several times and the more often I read them, the more I come to the conclusion that Eldar actually never really used an iPhone. I wonder if he ever had one in his hands.

Another possible proof that he actually never used an iPhone: his HTC Touch review. I bought a HTC Touch for my little daugther, I played around with it a couple of days and even if it is an impressie piece of WM technology, it doesn't come even close to the iPhone WOW factor. Again: I love Windows Mobile, I love using Windows Vista, I'm not a so called "Apple Fanboy", so I don't have any reason to be that impressed with the iPhone. I am and I like the iPhone a lot, in my opinion the iPhone started a new generation of touch (finger) operated phones and my claim will be proven over the next couple of years when I'm pretty sure that most major cell phone manufacturers will start to offer similar phones.
