    Default Rogers web browsing

hi, i am in Canada using the rogers wireless. i just phoned rogers an hour ago ask about if there is any web browsing plan for the iphone. the rep replied yes, but since rogers is not offical carrier for iphone, they have only one plan for the iphone, it costs $65 dollar per month inlcude 1 gigabyte data transmittion.
Just let you guys know if anyone in canada are intested in using EDGE.

Thanks, we've kind of heard about this one before, however, EDGE is quite slow for browsing full HTML pages. I am currently on an unlimited promotion so I browse as much as I want and I only use about 30-40MB / month. So I really wish there was a 50-100MB plan for much less.... 'cos you're never gonna use 1GB on EDGE and $65 is a lot of money....

I've had the 50MB plan since I unlocked mine and have never gone above around 40MB however be careful with some 3rd party apps that tend to refresh frequently and don't have your mail check too frequently.
One thing that I think sucks is that when I'm at home, although I have a wireless network, all of my mail checks use EDGE because the wireless connection isn't active in sleep mode but still, I haven't gone over my 50MBs but I agree, $65.00 per month for a 32K dialup speed connection is robbery.....

As bad as the $65 plan is, it's better than paying $50per 1MB on pay as you go basis. I actually talked them down to $50/mo for 1GB which I still feel is very expensive, but I find having an iPhone with internet whenever I want/need it to be very useful. It looks like there is new tiered pricing coming in March. It goes like this:

Effective March 18th 2008 (Preliminary updates:
    -
    Unlim WAP = $7
Unlim Vision WAP = $7 - 3 yr term with DECF (Data Early Cancellation Fee)

    Non-Rogers & WM Data & Tethering - 3 yr term with DECF
    $15 - 20MB ~ Tier 1
    $30 - 20MB to 60MB ~ Tier 2
    $50 - 60MB to 500MB ~ Tier 3
    $65 - 500MB to 1GB ~ Tier 4
    $75 - 1GB to 2GB ~ Tier 5
    $85 - 2GB to 3GB ~ Tier 6
    $100 - 3GB to 5GB ~ Tier 7
    $0.03 per additional MB
*Note: Everyone starts off at the $15 plan and based on usage, you move up the tiers

ALL OLD PLANS GRANDFATHERED - ALL PLANS WILL NOT CONFLICT WITH $20 COMM PACK

This is much better since you only pay for the amounts that you use. Most people will probably end up paying $50 anyways with the iPhone but this tiered structure gives much better flexability.

hi, have you purchased that pack?? since i remembered that rogers stated somewhere on its website the web browsing plan is only for rogers supportive phone and the non supportive will still pay $0.2/kb although you bought any plan that include the web browsing.

    this is what rogers states:

    * Plan includes unlimited on-device mobile browsing only. Plan is available on select phones only (PDAs such as Blackberry or Windows Mobile devices, PC cards and non-Rogers certified devices are not eligible). Data usage incurred on ineligible devices, incurred while tethering (using device as wireless modem for laptop) or incurred using non-Rogers (3rd party) applications downloaded to your device will be subject to pay-per-use charges of 5 cents/KB.

I phoned the rep ask if iphone can use this plan, the rep is also no idea. so i decided to take a try first, then few days after back to see what's really my bill like. but later on i go to my rogers account found, the plan decribes the unlimited browsing used the word "wap", which means you are only entitle for unlimied wap browsing, othervise you will pay per kb like go to http website. As a result, the wap only can work for your email checking since iphone's email app use wap as service protocol.
    so i canceled my plan.
