Default Rogers Iphone Users listen up

Beware you are going to get hosed on your dataplan:

My first month of usage was 39mb and I am on exchange with only headers of email coming through.

My Plan $60 for 25mb a month $7 per mb over.

I managed to call rogers and negotiate what I consider a great deal:

$80 a Month for 200mb of data. (my voice is $67 for 800minutes free eve/weknds etc)

    What do you pay???????

    Uh oh...

Well, I only use Yahoo to push email to my phone... I use it as my "pager". I probably get 5 emails per day...

I've used chatteremail on my Treo for almost a year, averaging <5 megs per month.

I'm assuming the Yahoo/Mail-pseudo-IMAP-IDLE function will be the same... but I guess one should never assume. I'm sorta crossing my fingers until my October Statement arrives. I only started using the iPhone this weekend.

PS: I'm on the $5/5meg plan.

Wow, eh, I only use Wifi on my phone...I don't plan on paying for Roger's data plan right now...

Those costs only happen when you use their edge service right? I don't have any settings in my Edge menu on the iPhone, so I'm safe from those over charges?

    you are.

It would be interesting in comparing plans. I am a partner in a company and we are on their small business plans, seems one can get deals if one is willing to hard negotiate...

OH and I was told that 3G is coming to Vancouver in November !

Thanks for the tip, Lardnapkin. I will call them on my iPhone tonight (after my 6pm Couples and Family plan time is free)!
Can I sync my iPhone to my Newton?

I figured this out the hard way, got charged $20 for checking my email.
Rogers, and every other company like them rips us all off.

Wow, you're getting a great deal (By Canadian standards)

    I'm on a $100 / 200 Mb plan and $45 for 750 minutes/ early unlimited evenings / weekends / and unlimited fido/rogers calling.

Luckily my company picks up the tab... But I'm going to call them tonight and complain and try to get the $80/200 Mb plan. It's probably because you're on a small business plan... However, I have huge Rogers bills, I've probably given them over $2000 worth of business between 2 phones + cable TV + Internet in the last _3_ months. Those fuckers better reward me

Although, if you wanna hear something funny... My girlfriend got a new phone with 3G wireless. I decided to see how fast it was. We went to CNN.COM and sure enough, lightning quick. Almost as quick as Rogers' response time in billing us: $87 for 1.5 Mb of data usage on her phone We're going to complain tonight and try to get it waived.

BTW it looks like they're "Saving" you $20 on the data but charging you $20 more on the voice... $20 for 50 more minutes? But who knows.. I'm still going to try to get the $80/200 Mb or more MB for my $100...

Doesn't your EDGE usage appear in:

Settings -> Usage -> Edge Network Data

I can see my Sent/Received. I've been checking this after I do anything with Edge. Is this not accurate to your billing?

I called Rogers and had them disable any data transfer to my phone.. i just use wifi. I live by a university and there are hundreds of networks around. i don't want to get stuck with some insane data charge at the end of the month!! I could easily go over 200Megs.
