Returning iPhone to Apple - should I activate with a PAYG AT&T?
Hi there,
A quick question to anybody please that has returned an unlocked phone. Mine has taken a turn for the worse and won't wake up and the camera application resets the phone. I have searched heavily on the forums and one option is to replace the commboard and camera (something I am definitely not up to!) so I am going to return the phone to Apple (I live in Australia and it was bought in the US unfortunately)
I am going to use OneSIM to try and get it back to as near factory state as possible. I was just wondering if I need to get an AT&T Pay as you go SIM and activate the thing so that they can see in the shop that the phone is broken or just return as is?
I'd appreciate any thoughts / advice.
Many thanks,
Migs

If you return it, you're most likely going to have a 1.1.2 ipod touch come back to you.
I'd find a broken phone(cracked screen) and find someone to replace the parts for you, if you're not up for it.
If you do return it, just do a restore to 1.1.2 in iTunes.
Are you sure they (Apple), will even honor the warranty since it left the US??

It's worth a try. I certainly would no opt to pay them for repair without trying to get it done under warranty.

Cool - thank you for the advice.
I'm going to try and restore to as near as I can to the factory and ask my friend to go in to the store (he bought it for me) and plead ignorance and just say that it didn't work.
Many thanks for the advice.

If my unlocked phone breaks and its not under warranty can I then pay for a repair?

First of all, if you tell Apple it's been unlocked they probably would not repair it because Apple does not support unlocking it. I would restore it first and play dumb. Otherwise, I think you would have to find a third party to fix it.
