Default Restore locked iPhone to factory settings

    Hi

I recently found an iPhone on the street. I tried to give it back to its owner but I couldn't: I tried to phone him but the phone was locked by code and I could not see his/her number. I tried hard to hack the code by: emergency call -> #### -> quicly press the lock button, but it didn't work. Finally, I gave up and decided to restore it to its factory settings and keep it.

Then, I tried to restore it by connecting it to the computer while pressing home button, but in the middle of the process iTunes told me that I had to unlock it before I could go on.

So I have two different questions. First one is if there is any way to find out the owners phone number. And second one is if there is any way to format the iPhone so that I can erase all the previous information and use is as if it was new.

    Thanks for your help.

Sorry, I forgot the details. It's an iPhone 3GS. I don't know the firmware but I guess it's the last one (4.3.3)
    Model No.: A1303 - FCC ID: BCGA1303A - IC ID: 579C-A1303A

    Thanks

Give the phone to the local law enforcement (police for example). In most countries the law expects you to make a "fair effort" to return lost property to the original owner. Usually it's easier for the police to find the original owner than you.

By deciding to keep the phone, you are likely breaking local laws and we CANNOT help you with illegal activities.
