    Default Replacement iPhone won't activate...

Let me just start this off by admitting that I'm a complete idiot. This morning I ran my iPhone through my washing machine (for 3 minutes until I realized). When I got it out, it, understandably, wasn't working. I took it to the Apple store and was told the only thing I could do was buy a warranty replacement iPhone for $249. I wasn't happy, but I was freaking out without a phone or iPod, so I caved. They told me I'd have to go to an ATT store to get a new SIM card for the phone, as the previous one was damaged by water (though they did give it back to me).

I got the new SIM and now I'm stuck, as iTunes won't let me actually restore from my old phone's backup, it will only let me activate a new phone (which starts the 2 year contract over and has an activation fee). I'm really not sure what to do at this point and I'm desperately hoping someone can give me some advice... Is there a way to trick iTunes into thinking it's my old phone, or some way to get the "Restore from Backup" option to show up again (like it does when you update the firmware)?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has any ideas, I'm still without phone and iPod, despite having the working iPhone in my possession...

I don't know if it's helpful for you guys, but this is a brand new phone from the apple store, so it's obviously never been unlocked or had and 3rd party software on it. Hell, I never even did that to my old phone...

The "Start as if it's a new phone" has nothing to do with your AT&T contract. That simply refers to the on board settings: Brightness, ringtone, lock timer and so on

The phone is already activated with AT&T if you're already at that screen

And even if it isn't already activated redoing it as a new phone will not renew your contract AFAIK, as long as you use the same account/same number. I've reactivated 4 phons so far on my acct and my contract date is still the same as it was when I first opened my acct

I have to be honest, I'm not quite sure what you're talking about with this... I never said "start as if its a new phone." And I don't know what screen you're talking about... The iPhone is on the "activate iPhone" screen, and when I plug it in, iTunes goes straight to the ATT activation page... No "Existing customer" or "Restore" option...

P.S. the iPhone is on the activate screen right now, but when I put the new SIM from the ATT store, it immediately recognized it and I was able to make/receive calls from my phone number, but it wouldn't sync as iTunes kept telling me to activate... Thinking it was just an error, it put it into restore mode and let iTunes restore it, and now it won't leave the Activate screen...

Sorry, I didn't see that last part before I posted... Do you mean that if I go through the activation process again via ATT it won't charge me the activation fee or reset my contract? Follow-up: If I do this, will I get the option afterwards to restore all the settings from my previous iPhone?
