    I started with x999x's method at http://www.everythingiphone.com/foru...reen-9707.html

They were using Windows, I'm using a Mac. On the Mac I used Fugu and copied the /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/DisplayOrder.plist file onto the Mac. I actually made two copies, one as an original backup and another to edit. I used the Mac Property List Editor to add a new Sibling/Child pair under the Special group. Expand the 5th entry in the IconList group to see what the stocks entry looks like and use that as a guide. After you have an identical entry in the special group then you can delete the entry in the iconlist group. Save the file back.

The file gets saved as XML even though the original was in binary format. I assume that XML will work but somehow it seemed like bad karma

I opened a terminal window and moved to the directory where the modified plist file was located and typed: plutil -convert binary1 DisplayOrder.plist

This converts it back to binary. If you did the editing correctly it should be exactly the same length as the original since all you are doing in effect is moving a dictionary entry from iconlist to special group. Then I used Fugu to put it back on the iphone and then rebooted. Stocks icon gone. Take that Wall Street!
