Default Red dot that doesn't go away (above Phone and voicemail icons)

After successfully activating and unlocking my phone, I noticed a red indicator dot above the Phone on the homescreen and when I press the "phone" icon, there is a red dot over the voicemail icon. It's been a couple days and I restarted the phone a few times.

I don't have Voicemail in my plan, so I don't want that red dot there.

When I have a missed call, the red dot over "phone" shows as "+1", and goes back to the red dot after I press the "phone" icon to check my missed call.

Any idea how to get rid of the red dot?
